‘All-Through’ Academy Proposal
Update - April 2017:
In September 2016 St Edward’s College and Runnymede St Edward’s School announced a consultation upon becoming an ‘All-Through Academy’, for pupils aged 4-18, which would involve the taking over by St Edward’s College of the current Runnymede St Edward’s independent preparatory school, with which St Edward's College shares its campus.
Following this consultation, the governors decided to submit a formal application and business plan to the Department for Education, in the hope that this would be swiftly assessed and the new ‘All-Through’ Academy be established from September 2017. The application enjoyed the support of the Governors of Runnymede St Edward’s School, Liverpool Education Authority, the Archdiocese of Liverpool, and the local Member of Parliament, Stephen Twigg MP.
Following the submission of the application, the College has been in dialogue several times with the DFE over various points of clarification they have sought, and the Principal and two governors met with the Minister for Schools, Lord Nash, at the Department for Education.
Regrettably no answer has been forthcoming from the DFE, and now that the General Election has been called no answer will be forthcoming until the electoral process is complete and the ministerial posts in the DFE occupied once more.
The proposal for September 2017 is therefore now unfeasible, and Runnymede St Edward’s School will continue to operate as an independent school.
At this point the proposal remains on the table for September 2018.
