Curriculum - Geography

In Runnymede St Edward's School, Geography gives all pupils an opportunity to develop a range of knowledge and skills. Pupils through the topics covered across both key stages can raise and answer questions about the world they live in, making sense of it and recognising the role the role they have to play in it.

In KS1 pupils begin to develop their Geographical enquiry and skills through expressing their own views about people, places and the environment. Pupils are encouraged to develop their understanding of the school environment and the world around them, considering the value of the links they themselves make.

In KS2 pupils aim to identify and explain the views that people, including themselves hold about topical Geographical issues. Investigations into the past determine the present, the legacy we have inherited in our locality and across the world. In Year 5 and 6 pupils take part in field trips (residential courses) which provide experiences not possible in a busy city.

"As pupils study Geography, they encounter different societies and cultures. This helps them realise how nations rely on each other. It can inspire them to think about their own place in the world, their values, and their rights and responsibilities to other people and the environment."
