Curriculum - Maths
Maths is an essential discipline which we use in many areas of our lives. It trains the mind in the most basic ideas of logic, cause and effect and truth. Runnymede recognises the importance of maths by making excellent provision for children to study the subject from Nursery to Year 6.
Children study topics in arithmetic, shape and data handling to develop their fluency and literacy in the subject. We aim to develop their knowledge of underlying maths concepts as well as their ability to apply this knowledge in practical contexts. Maths progress is constantly monitored in informal weekly tests as well as more formal assessment activities each term. This monitoring programme helps staff to ensure continuity and progress. Lessons are delivered in a dynamic manner using a variety of quality resources which encourage participation by every child.
