Reception
Reception is part of the Foundation Stage. The Foundation Stage follows the Early Learning Goals which are reached by a series of stepping stones. We recognise that each child is unique and will to achieve these Goals at their own pace through a variety of indoor/outdoor active learning experiences. The six areas of learning are:-
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communiation, Language and Literacy
- Mathematical Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development.
In Reception we aim to encourage the children to become independent, confident, happy and secure members of our school community. This is promoted through many aspects in school including our whole school code of conduct. You can also help your child towards reaching these goals by encouraging them to come into class independently, dress themselves, take off/put on and fasten their coat and shoes and to support and take pride in all they achieve.
Children in Reception have a very busy and varied curriculum, for example during the Autumn Term, we celebrated St.Edwards Day by dressing up as knights and princesses. We had a pretend jousting tournament, baked jam tarts, danced round the maypole and decorated crowns with jewels. Even the teachers dressed up!
We also investigated Autumn treasures found during our walks in the school grounds. We collected conkers, leaves and fir cones.
During the Spring Term, we pretended to be 'Dinosaur Detectives' and hunt for dinosaur bones. We enjoyed finding out about dinosaurs in non fiction books and dressing up as palaeontologists!
Finally in the Summer term as part of our 'People who help us' topic, we invited Sergeant Matt into our school to talk about his role as a Police Officer. He showed us his special uniform and let us sound the siren in the police car. It was very noisy!
