Residential Trips
Residential Trips
Runnymede St Edward’s School encourages a child’s personal and social development by the inclusion of residential trips in the Year 5 and 6 curriculum.
Year 5
Shortly after the beginning of Year 5,the children visit an Activity Centre for a week in October. This year, the children visited PGL’s Winmarleigh Hall near Garstang, Preston in Lancashire. For some, this is the first time away from home and can seem daunting but, once there, the activities on offer and opportunities for ICT work, comfortable accommodation and good food soon banish any nervous tummies!!
During their stay the children take part in environmental study and ICT activities which are selected by the class teachers. Each evening the centre staff arrange fun activities including quizzes, bingo and problem solving games. At the end of the week on the last night, there is a disco.
The centre also offers climbing, zip wire, archery, caving in a purpose-built system, team-building activities and much, much more in the safety of a secure site with trained instructors.
The children are supervised at all times by a member of Runnymede staff and whilst on activities they are with one and sometimes two PGL staff and a member of our staff.
The children are accommodated in rooms which sleep between 4-10 children in bunk - beds. Bed linen is provided and there is a place for each child to store their belongings.
All the Centres are inspected by BAHA ( British Activity Holiday Association) and the Health and Safety Inspectorate and a risk assessment visit is made prior to the children’s visit.
